For each type of fundraiser - e.g. Birthday Fundraiser - you can set up different types of messages - e.g. you could decide on the following 3 messages
- Thank you for setting up a page - which would be sent when the page is setup
- Hints & Tips for fundraising - sent a few days after the page is setup
- Thank you for fundraising - sent when the fundraiser is finished
A message can include a personalised link to a form asking the fundraiser for more details about them and their fundraising - if you want to include personalised links you need to set up a form to ask for the details - to learn more about forms see the articles in this section of the knowledgebase.
Setting Up the Messages
To set up your messages go to Integrations | Facebook Giving Tools and click on the Messages tab - choose the type of fundraiser then you can
- Choose the form you want to use to ask for more information
- Press the Add Message Type button to add a new message - when you add a new message type you can enter
- Message Type - e.g. Hints & Tips for Fundraising
- Message Tag - this is shown in the list of fundraisers and donate buttons when the message has been sent, keep this short - e.g. Hints & Tips
- Message Tag Colour - this is the colour of the tag when shown in the list of fundraisers and buttons
- Message Text - this is the text of the message that will be posted on the fundraisers page or as a direct message - note that
- You can use the these placeholders
- {FormLink} - this will include a link to a personalised form for the fundraiser
Important if your message contains a link to a form then anyone who clicks on that link will have access to see and update the fundraiser's personal data. So we strongly advise that you use a private messaging service such as Messenger for messages that contain links to forms - note that links to forms expire after 7 days. - {FirstName} - this will insert fundraisers first name from their constituent profile
- {FormLink} - this will include a link to a personalised form for the fundraiser
- You can include a link (or URL) of an image to display
- This is a simple example message
Welcome {FirstName}
Thank you so much for supporting us - we'd love to get to know you better - you can tell us more about your fundraising here {FormLink}
Sending a Message
To send a message to a fundraiser go to Integrations > Facebook Giving Tools and click on the Fundraisers and Donate Buttons tab - find the fundraiser you want to message and click on the Create Message button - then click on the message you want to send
The message text will be copied to your clipboard and you will be taken to the fundraiser's page where you can paste the message onto their page or send it as a direct message.
Important If your message contains a link to a form then anyone who clicks on that link will have access to see and update the fundraiser's personal data - so we strongly advise that you use a private messaging service such as Messenger for messages that contain links to forms.
Once you have sent the message a tag will be shown in the Message History column - as shown in the example below - if you hover the mouse over the tag a popup message will show who sent the message and when.
Finding Outstanding Messages
To find fundraisers who have not yet received a certain type of message - e.g. Hints & Tips - check the box next to the message type under the Messages Not Sent. The list on the Fundraisers and Donate Buttons tab will be filtered down to fundraisers where
- the type of fundraiser has a message of the type selected, and
- the fundraiser has not been sent that message.
